Generation and measurement of electric/magnetic fields for production testing

Description of the thesis proposal:
In production of electronic products, it is sometimes desired to create electric or magnetic fields, e.g. to be able to test Hall sensors. A challenge with this type of measurements is to create a strong field with a small magnet or electromagnet. Commercially available products are (usually) too large to fit inside the production equipment.

The thesis should consist of analysing different methods and equipment to generate magnetic or electric fields. It is also desired to be able to measure (and control) the strength of the field.

For example, the thesis work could include:

• Analysing existing products on the market.
• Build a field generator that is smaller than existing products.

The main goal of this thesis is to compare some different methods and determine the reliability and accuracy of these. The project covers literature studies and hardware development.

We seek one to two students for this thesis. Depending on the applicant’s background and interests, we are flexible in the scope of the thesis project.

For a successful thesis work, we believe that the applicants should have:

• Experience in electronics and hardware.
• Interest/knowledge of magnetic and/or electric fields.
