Thesis Proposal - Design and Optimization of Planar Filtenna Structures for telecom/ communication Applications
Titel: Design and Optimization of Planar Filtenna Structures for telecom/communication Applications
Abstract:
This thesis proposal outlines the development of a Filtenna structure, which integrates a filter, matching network, and antenna into a single unit for telecommunications applications. The design aims to operate within a frequency range of 1-6 GHz or around 28 GHz, depending on the focus on either low- or high-frequency application in the telecom sector. Filters and antennas are essential in modern wireless communication systems, where they enable efficient signal filtering and interference rejection, as well as the conversion of analog RF signals into electromagnetic waves suitable for air transmission. Achieving a compact planar design without compromising performance remains a significant challenge. This research proposes a systematic design and optimization approach to address this challenge and enhance Filtenna functionality for advanced telecom applications.
Introduction:
Planar filter and antenna are essential components in various high-frequency applications, particularly in microwave and telecom communication systems. Using planar and compact design of these components is a key objective, as it contributes to the miniaturization and integration of the overall circuitry. This proposal aims to design a Filtenna, wherein filter and antenna is combined while maintaining the compactness of the design, achieving a compact and efficient filtering solution as well as good antenna performance.
Objectives:
- Design a filtenna within the selected Frequency Range: Develop a design with desired specifications, including cutoff frequency, passband ripple, and return loss, suitable for the frequency range of interest.
- Compact integration solution: Investigate methods and techniques to combine both filter and antenna while ensuring the performance adheres to the specified requirements.
- Optimize: Conduct thorough optimization to achieve the best possible performance in terms of cutoff frequency, passband insertion loss, return loss, and directivity and gain, also other relevant parameters while adhering to the constraints imposed by the compact design.
- Characterize and Validate the Design: Simulate, fabricate, and measure the designed to validate the achieved performance and confirm its viability for real-world applications.
Conclusion:
The proposed thesis aims to develop a planar Filtenna for communication application. Achieving this goal will contribute to the advancement of compact and efficient high-frequency RF front end design, with potential applications in modern wireless communication systems and electronics technologies.
